Helping Raise Awareness on World Polio Day! A Rotary
International Initiative!
Guest of Honor Priya Dutt Inaugurated the
Illumination of the Polio Eradication Awareness "END POLIO NOW"
World Polio Day -
24 October! Partners, governments, civil society and communities worldwide are
today marking World Polio Day, as efforts to eradicate this disease once and
for all are being intensified. One such incredible effort is by the Rotary
International.
In 2013, there are reasons both for celebration and concern. There has been remarkable progress over the last year, bringing us closer than ever to achieving a polio-free world. Dr. Bharat Pandya, Member of India National Polioplus Committee along with our District Governor Lata Subraidu come together on World Polio Day to celebrate the completion of zero polio cases in the coming January by proudly projecting the Rotary Logo & End Polio Now Message on Mumbai’s prominent landmark Taj Lands End Hotel, Bandra.
The Illumination
Event attended by the dignitaries & past Rotarians with gracious presence
of Past Rotary International Director; Shri
Ashok Mahajan. Dr. Bharat Pandya proudly mentions, “To date, Rotary has
contributed more than $1.2 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunize
more than 2 billion children - and our work continues. Rotary clubs
worldwide continue to raise funds for critical polio eradication activities. I
take immense pride in putting up the Rotary Logo to acknowledge the deeds done
by our volunteers & to spread awareness about polio eradication.”
Addressing the
media lens, Dr, Pandya further adds, “With your participation and support, we
feel that there would be significant interest in this event, particularly given
the determined effort of Rotary volunteers to raise the funds needed to fight
polio in this last, most difficult stage of the eradication initiative.”
